Hardware Société Brunch

An Australian Brunch in Paris

Out of all the brunch spots I have tried, Hardware Société is by far my favourite. Amazing food, a warm and friendly atmosphere and beautiful interiors to match. Whether you're craving sweet or savoury - or both - you're sure to find something absolutely yummy for your foodie tastebuds.

The Parisian branch of the Franco-Australian founders based in Melbourne is located on one of the most hidden-in-plain-sight streets of Paris. Just east of the Sacré Coeur, on rue Lamarck, Hardware Société is a hidden gem that is a favourite haunt for locals. Beware! On Sundays, the queues are notoriously long and they do not accept reservations.

From left to right, you can get an eyeful of some of my favourite dishes. My go-to drink is the Iced Mocha (5€) served with vanilla ice cream. Not only does it look amazing, it really tastes great! The Great Aussie Chicken Parma (18€) is one big plate of foodie heaven - a chicken schnitzel, comté, ham, tomato concasse, house made fries and broccoli salad. Enough said. The Sweet Board (14€) is just that, a combination of various sweets and desserts guaranteed to satisfy anyone's sweet tooth. Comprising of a vanilla yoghurt bavarois, cinnamon syruup, churros with 58% callebaut chocolate & grand marnier sauce, and to top it off a blood orange & grapefruit salad, it really is a combo made in sweet heaven. The Pork Belly & Fried Eggs (16.50€) is probably a good option for those looking for a more classic brunch choice. Bacon & parsnip potato cakes, cauliflower mustard pickle and fried eggs atop slices of rye bread, a truly mouthwatering dish.

Although the menu itself rarely - if ever - changes, they do have occasional specials that are actually twists on their usual classics. Mostly known for being a hip and popular brunch spot amongst locals, they do offer lunch and tea time options as well. With a delicious assortment of classic French viennoiseries, such as croissants and pains au chocolat, as well as a large variety of cakes and pastries (see that beautiful cheesecake with raspberry coulis and berries?), it is definitely advisable to come on an empty stomach.

Hardware Société is situated at number 10 rue Lamarck, 75018 Paris. Open on weekdays from 9am to 4pm, except for Tuesdays, and on weekends from 9:30am to 4:30pm. Remember to come early if you want a spot for brunch on Sundays - the queue gets really long from 11am onwards and they don't accept reservations. If you arrive and there is a line, wait outside as one of the friendly staff will come out to take your name and the number of people in your group - speaks the voice of experience!
